<p>Currently, the biggest controversy in the valuation presented by Kakao Pay on local streets is the inclusion of PayPal.</p><p>Of course, PayPal is similar to Kakao Pay in that the payment method accounts for the majority of sales. However, the problem is that Paypal is significantly different from Kakao Pay in terms of sales volume, service market scope, and market capitalization.</p><p>PayPal operates in global markets, with a market cap of ₩385T and sales of ₩24T. On the other hand, Kakao Pay has no business base other than the domestic market. And as of last year, Kakao Pay's sales amounted to ₩284B, which is nearly one-hundredth of that of PayPal.</p><p>In particular, Kakao Pay's share of the domestic payment service market last year was only 16.6%. Even in the local market, Kakao Pay does not have a clear advantage over competing services like Samsung Pay, Payco, and Naver Pay.</p><p><strong>In conclusion, although Kakao Pay has a fast growth rate, a direct comparison with PayPal, which has a significantly different target market size and sales level, is simply unreasonable.</strong></p><p>Paypal's growth-adjusted EV/Sales multiple came in at a whopping 81.6x. Including Paypal in the valuation peer group was the direct cause of raising Kakao Pay's valuation to an irrational level.</p><table class="table table-striped">

Comparatively, proposed valuations for Kakao Pay ($7-11bn) and PayTM ($24-25bn) are much higher but these are also later stage businesses with established track records and offer some insight into what PayPay can turn into over time. We currently value PayPay at its carry value of $500mn but as monetization starts, we expect management aspirations for a unicorn valuation can be reached. Kakao Pay IPO: Offering Detail & Valuation Issues

<p>Kakao Pay is offering 17 million shares in the IPO at the price range of 63,000 won to 96,000 won per share. The IPO deal size range is from $948 million to $1.4 billion. According to the bankers' valuation, the expected market cap range would be from 8.6 trillion won to 13.0 trillion won.</p>

Kakao Pay is offering 17 million shares in the IPO at the price range of 63,000 won to 96,000 won per share. The IPO deal size range is from $948 million to $1.4 billion. According to the bankers' valuation, the expected market cap range would be from 8.6 trillion won to 13.0 trillion won.
At the high end of the market cap range (13.0 trillion won), this would represent the 31st largest market cap in KOSPI. Samsung Securities, Goldman Sachs, and JP Morgan are the lead underwriters of this IPO. 
According to the company, it plans to use 381 billion won of the IPO proceeds in business operations/working capital. It plans to use the remaining 680 billion won in IPO proceeds for M&amp;A purposes.
