We then apply our technical and quantitative tools to identify developing price trends. Once attractive trends are identified within a selected sector or group, we screen for individual stocks which we believe offer the best risk/reward profile. We provide a historical perspective that often reveals, through our long-term charts, how price patterns often repeat themselves over time.

Technical Analysis

Jitters over today’s Georgia Senate runoff elections led to mild weakness on the first trading day of the year. As we explain below, this appears to be just a blip on the radar and our bullish outlook remains intact. We continue to view any weakness as a buying opportunity. Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index / Technical Analysis

Geopolitical concerns aside, a weakening US dollar (DXY) continues to be a major tailwind for both EM equities and the commodity Sectors. Improving price and RS trends for these risk-on areas of the market are among the many characteristics consistent with historical bull markets. Therefore, we continue to label this a bull market and we believe global equities are still in the early innings of a broad-based advance. Commodity Sectors make up a majority of our EM-focused recommendations in this report.

Geopolitical concerns aside, a weakening US dollar (DXY) continues to be a major tailwind for both EM equities and the commodity Sectors. Improving price and RS trends for these risk-on areas of the market are among the many characteristics consistent with historical bull markets. Therefore, we continue to label this a bull market and we believe global equities are still in the early innings of a broad-based advance. Commodity Sectors make up a majority of our EM-focused recommendations in this report.

EM Remains In Favor; Shanghai Comp Breaking Out

We continue to see increasingly more reasons to be bullish than not, and we believe the path of least resistance is higher for US equities. We also continue to recommend a “buy the dip” strategy. We continue to see increasingly more reasons to be bullish than not, and we believe the path of least resistance is higher for US equities. We also continue to recommend a “buy the dip” strategy. At the same time we are not seeing widespread breakdowns and the major averages are still consolidating within a 1-month horizontal range. As long as this consolidation continues, a neutral outlook is appropriate. In today’s report we highlight attractive Groups and stocks within health care staffing, silver, and platinum miners, and Electric and Gas utilities.

We remain cautious as there continues to be several new or persisting negative signals which tell us that upside is likely to be muted from here -- barring improvements.
