Lucror offers Smartkarma subscribers access to its Asian credit research service, which includes written analysis on 120 corporate high yield issuers from China, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, the Philippines and other SEA countries. The Asian research team consists of 4 experienced credit analysts, who comment on a daily basis on developments that affect the creditworthiness of the companies they cover. An integral part of our service that we offer to Smartkarma subscribers is access to our analysts to discuss their credit views and trade recommendations.

What are your clients’ key use cases?

Subscribers to Lucror’s research are portfolio managers, analysts and traders who wish to stay abreast of developments in the corporate high yield markets, and who wish to receive and discuss independent, timely and well-thought credit opinions. Lucror serves either as a primary source of analysis or as a sounding board for their internal credit views.

What types of clients find your work most useful?

Primarily market participants (PMs, analysts and traders) from buyside institutions. In particular, asset managers, pension funds, private banks, family offices and hedge funds are typically our clients. Sellside trading desks also find our service of significant value, as we comment on market developments daily and our analysis is always distilled to an actionable buy/hold/sell trade recommendation.

What was the gap in the market that led to the establishment of Lucror Analytics?

Lucror was established in 2010 to address the gap in independent credit research for high yield credits. At the time, European high yield markets were growing to close the gap with the US, while the Asian corporate high yield market was at its nascent stage. Specifically for the Asian markets, there was a substantial lack of unbiased credit analysis, as well as research that focused on region-specific challenges, namely the weak corporate governance framework that continues to pose a risk to investors.

What has been the trajectory of your career as a research provider?

Lucror has grown from strength to strength since its launch, quadrupling its research team from 4 in 2010 to currently 16 and expanding its footprint across the globe, both in terms of its presence and its client base. The company has successfully navigated and thrived through the Global Economic Crisis, the European debt crisis, a disruptive regulation overhaul due to MiFID II, and as of late, the coronavirus pandemic. Throughout all these challenges, the Lucror team has grown, developing new products for its clients and forging strong partnerships with global investment powerhouses.
