<p>Didi Chuxing (Didi) is getting ready to complete its IPO in the coming weeks. The company claims to be the world's largest mobility technology platform in terms of annual active users and by average daily transactions for the 12 months ended March 2021. </p>
<p>Didi is the number player for shared mobility services in China including ride hailing, taxi hailing, chauffeur, hitch, and other forms of shared mobility. The company operates in 15 countries globally and its platform provides services to over 493 million active annual users and powered 41 million average daily transactions for 12 months ended March 31, 2021.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.ft.com/content/bb80e462-fbb9-49d1-8a87-b3ad511c1d4e" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Didi Chuxing</a> was last valued at $65 billion in a 2018 fund raising round. Major investors in Didi include Softbank which has invested more than $10 billion in this company. Softbank's Vision Funds own a 21.5% stake in Didi Chuxing, followed by <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/uber-technologies-inc" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:430:1" rel="noopener">Uber (UBER US)</a> with a 12.8% stake, and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/tencent-holdings-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:26:1" rel="noopener">Tencent (700 HK)</a> which has a 6.8% stake. </p>
</div><p>The company's long term vision is to capitalize on AI and big data to power shared, electric, smart, and autonomous mobility networks. The company estimates the mobility service market was $6.7 trillion globally in 2020, which is expected to increase to $16.4 trillion in 2040. Shared mobility and electric vehicles penetration rates were 2% and 1%, respectively in 2020. Shared mobility and electric vehicles penetration rates are expected to reach 23.6% and 29.3%, respectively in 2040.</p>

Full Truck Alliance Pre-IPO - Valuation, Even the Previous Round Might Have Been a Stretch

It is backed by Softbank and Sequoia.</p><p>Full Truck Alliance (FTA) was formed in 2017 via a merger of Yunmanman and Huochebang, which had been operational since 2013 and 2011, respectively. It is the largest digital freight platform in China and the world, as per CIC. In 2020, 71.7m orders were fulfilled on the platform, with a gross transaction value (GTV) of RMB173.8bn (US$26.6bn), by 2.8m truckers. It had 1.3m active shippers in Dec 2020. Approximately 20% of all China’s heavy-duty and medium-duty truckers fulfilled shipping orders on its platform in 2020, according to CIC.</p><p>FTA is the leader in its category and appears to be well ahead of other competitors, as per CIC. The company has been working on various means of monetising its user base. While 2020 wasn’t a great year for revenue growth, the company did manage to turn a profit and was cash flow positive as well. </p>

<p>DoorDash’s had a fairly impressive 1Q21 as it still is benefitting from annualizing the pandemic surge. The company even raised full year guidance by more than then the first quarter beat. However, they are guiding to deceleration in the backhalf of the year as reopenings pick up and normal seasonality sets in for 3Q. On balance, the quarter and commentary made us less bearish – but there’s still that insane valuation to wrap one’s mind around. At 15x forward sales, its down from 20x after last quarter, but after a 22% rip on earnings, this company’s valuation makes no sense in the context of an industry that saw Grubhub and Postmates get acquired at 6x forward sales a year ago.</p><div class="content-highlight"><p>Obex’s fundamental research process is focused on secular change in the TMT and Consumer sectors.
