COG’s H1/20 results were in line with our expectations, albeit revenue was weaker. The credit profile remains satisfactory, despite some deterioration from the reduced earnings and higher debt. In our view, the company’s explanation that it increased short-term borrowings to maintain banking relationships is acceptable at this point, with the amount being insignificant. Looking ahead, we agree with management that the operating environment could become more favourable in H2/20, which might support a recovery in revenue growth. That said, the upstream O&G business in Canada may remain under pressure, though it only contributed 3% of H1 revenue. Overall, we expect the company’s credit profile to weaken slightly, on account of soft earnings.
