COSCO Corp's Annual Report couldn't be more hard hitting. Line after line of the new Chairman's statement reminds shareholders just how difficult times are.But beyond the doom and gloom of the industry and the difficulty COSCO is having to stay afloat - with a debt-equity ratio of a whopping 6x - there is a silver lining. First, that the company appears to be pulling out all the stops to keep orders coming in. And second, that there is no whiff of obfuscation.

In 2013, Xi Jinping launched the One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative. The aim of the initiative was to connect major Eurasian economies through infrastructure, trade and investment. Chinese economic activity appears to be stabilizing in April.  We are not witnessing a pullback from the expansion in the real economy we saw post Chinese New Year in March but nor are we witnessing continued expansion.  Given the explosion in credit, the relative lack of continued expansion should be cause for concern.
