We examine the unlikely, but not non-existent, chance of the Democrats winning the next general elections in 2017. If the Democrats win the elections, we think those with close ties to them, such as the banks and True Corp could benefit somewhat. Rubber company STA should also be a beneficiary, given its ties to the South (the Democrat's most loyal voter base. We are less confident on construction. Though the swing vote party's presence bodes well for STEC, we do not believe the Democrats will be as proactive on infrastructure spending as the military given their natural caution, but we believe Democrat governments are rational and best for the long run, if unexciting in the short term.Companies with links to Thaksin will naturally lose out, since no government is 100% impartial. The pro-Thaksin faction has links to the Intuch and some property companies such as SC Asset. BEC World, Samart, and Jasmine also belongs to long-time (and loyal) Thaksin allies, and we would be cautious on these names if the Democrats win.

Voting patterns in the referendum reflects regional divides as reconciliation efforts fall flat.</li><li>The long-term political outlook is also murky with the confluence of the looming royal succession, reluctance of the junta leaders to relinquish political power, tussle in the Buddhist Sangha and the frequent changes in the top leadership of the military.</li></ul>
