Technical Analysis

This issue concentrates on what to buy into touted late February weakness for a March rally and our more strategic energy and metals bottoming theme. We like Europe over the US given bull divergence in the Eurostoxx 50, banks hit our turn target, stretched bear sentiment and the Euro will trade weaker in March.  We are long from 2,690 with a March target of 3,150.S&amp;P 1,930 short with trailing stop at 1,920. Look to buy IWM on dip for perform trade.Taiwan and India stand out as higher confidence bull chart patterns in Asia to weigh into. HK energy and material plays are of interest in March.WTI slide to 25 will provide good buy levels for energy shares; WTI 38 rally target. Energy themed trades presented from XOP to CNOOC.March will provide an opportunity to load up on gold (1,150 w/ 1,320 MT target) and GDX below 15.50 (22+ target) given the expected equity risk on cycle. Will revisit in March.FCX stands out as a strategic long investment opportunity. We also look at buy levels for BHP and Asian material sectors into near term weakness.EEM faces USD headwinds and called to underperform DM’s in March. EEM draw down support lies at 29.35 this week with a March target of 32.Longs: Europe is our primary focus. Japan we would buy back at/below 15,500. We like energy and material shares in Asia. Look to buy Taiwan, India and H shares on draw downs.Shorts: Short Asian FX and Korea (need to cover). Looking to short Russia and Malaysia.Cycle timeline from late February into early March is an equity transition from bearish to bullish and viewed as a buying opportunity for equities and the USD versus Asia/EM FX.MT equity sequence – Late Feb/early March equity volatility, March rally, late March/April peak for slide into June.
