Investor sentiment for Asian HY remained healthy in March, maintaining the strong growth from January and February. That said, there is increasing uncertainty as to whether the US/Sino trade war will be resolved in the short term, with US President Donald Trump seemingly adopting a belligerent stance and Chinese President Xi Jinping waiting for Mr Trump to blink. Major Asian countries are suffering collateral damage, as Chinese imports to February fell y-o-y.

Sunac’s FY 2018 results were mostly in line with our expectations. Top-line growth, both contracted sales and revenue, was encouraging. We note that the company will have to maintain its strong sales execution and growth in contracted sales to support its expansion appetite. Credit metrics improved on the back of the top-line growth, better but still poor margins, and stable borrowings. We do not expect borrowings to decline significantly in the near term, given the company’s expansion and refinancing needs, as evidenced by the USD Notes issuance in early 2019. We change our fundamental Credit Bias on Sunac to “Stable” from “Negative”, given the company's stabilising debt, decent operations and improvement in credit metrics. We note that the company’s business and financial risks have reduced, and hence move our trade recommendation for the SUNAC curve to “Hold” from “Not Recommended”.  .
