<li>CSI 300 represents the 300 largest stocks by market capitalization and liquidity from the entire universe of Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges. CSI 500 represents the <em>next</em> largest 500 names.</li>
<li>In this insight, we take a look at the potential ADDs/DELs for the CSI 300 and CSI 500 rebalance in June 2024.</li>
<li>At present, I see 10 ADDs/DELs for the CSI 300 index and 50 ADDs/DELs for the CSI 500 index.</li>

CSI 300 represents the 300 largest stocks by market capitalization and liquidity from the entire universe of Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges. CSI 500 represents the next largest 500 names.
In this insight, we take a look at the potential ADDs/DELs for the CSI 300 and CSI 500 rebalance in June 2024.
At present, I see 10 ADDs/DELs for the CSI 300 index and 50 ADDs/DELs for the CSI 500 index.

<li>The adds outperformed the deletes from February to April but have given up a lot of the outperformance over the last month.</li>

There are 5 changes for the SSE50 Index that will be implemented at the close on 9 June. There is over 1x ADV to sell on a few deletions.
We estimate a one-way turnover of 5.3% at the June rebalance leading to a one-way trade of CNY 3.84bn. Index arb activity could add to the impact on the stocks.
The adds outperformed the deletes from February to April but have given up a lot of the outperformance over the last month.


SSE50 Index Rebalance: 5 Changes as Adds Give Up Recent Gains

<ul>
<li>There are 28 changes for the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/shanghai-shenzhen-csi-300-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22906:1" rel="noopener">Shanghai Shenzhen CSI 300 Index (SHSZ300 INDEX)</a> at the upcoming rebalance that will be implemented at the close of trading on 9 June.</li>
<li>We had forecast nearly all the changes, though the index committee seems to have used discretion in deciding not to add three Distillers to the index, leading to other changes.</li>
<li>There's a large sector skew with Industrials, Information Technology and Materials stocks taking 17 more spots in the index, while Health Care and Financials lose 9 and 5 spots respectively.</li>

There are 28 changes for the Shanghai Shenzhen CSI 300 Index (SHSZ300 INDEX) at the upcoming rebalance that will be implemented at the close of trading on 9 June.
We had forecast nearly all the changes, though the index committee seems to have used discretion in deciding not to add three Distillers to the index, leading to other changes.
There's a large sector skew with Industrials, Information Technology and Materials stocks taking 17 more spots in the index, while Health Care and Financials lose 9 and 5 spots respectively.

<li>Industrials, Information Technology and Materials sectors are expected to have the most net inclusions, while Health Care and Financials are expected to have the most net deletions.</li>
</ul>
