<p>This week below the fold we look at Indonesia's recent economic numbers which saw the country slide into recession, its first since the Asian Crisis but find it encouraging that the economy is moving onto a recovery track. We see selective banks and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/astra-international-tbk-pt" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:46:1" rel="noopener">Astra International (ASII IJ)</a> as core ways to play this recovery. </p>

<p>A major highlight was a marked improvement in margins, as the company saw significantly reduced programming costs over the period due to an increased reliance on re-runs. </p>
<p>FMCG customers have come back in 3Q2020 and will also underpin growth in 4Q2020 but the resumption of profitable sponsored programming, often interactive, from e-commerce players will help to further lift growth in advertising.</p>
<p>Vidio.com is firing on all cylinders, with 950,000 paying subscribers and 60m monthly active users (MAUs), with the draw of SCMA's rich content offering drawing in customers. </p>

The company still looks attractive on an FY21E PER of 17.8x versus its 5-year average of 19.1x, especially given its increasing digital exposure through Vidio.com.</p>

<p>The 9M2020 results were impacted by the fact that most of the company's stores were closed for a six week period during 2Q2020, with 3Q2020 only seeing minimal closures from the second round of PSBB measures, which have now been relaxed.</p>
<p>SSSG fell by a similar -40.9% during 3Q2020 versus a -57.7% decline for 9M2020, again reflecting the pandemic situation.</p>

<p>The purpose of this note is to analyze the different eCommerce fulfillment markets pursued by <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/kerry-express-thailand" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:29253:1" rel="noopener">Kerry Express Thailand (KEX TB)</a> and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/best-inc" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:25494:1" rel="noopener">BEST Inc (BEST US).</a> KEX focuses on Thailand's domestic express market, while Best has a competing domestic service and is also developing a X-border express service to quickly move Chinese goods into multiple SE Asian markets.</p><p>To better understand these two markets, we looked at market data from KEX's IPO documents as well as financial data disclosed by eCommerce giant <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/alibaba-group-holding-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:787:1" rel="noopener">Alibaba Group (BABA US)</a>. These figures, combined with numbers from KEX itself and the Chinese express companies, give investors a sense of the size and growth potential of the Thai domestic and X-border eComm fulfillment markets.</p><p>While both markets offer attractive growth, they also present distinct challenges. In the Thai domestic express market, these challenges include a lack of scale (compared to China's expess market) and relatively low population density, especially outside of Metro Bangkok. Challenges presented by the X-border market include exorbitant pricing, competition from large multinationals, and increased complexity (ie, paperwork, customs, tariffs, etc). </p><p>We conclude that KEX is an intriguing pure play on Thailand's eCommerce development whose upcoming IPO is worth following. Regarding Best, we recently upgraded its shares to Buy on expected sector consolidation. To date its Thai and X-border revenues remain a very small part of the company's business which probably won't "move the needle" in the near-term. </p>
