Two days ago the U.K. Financial Reporting Council announced 125 successful signatories (aka "not greenwashers") to the revised U.K. Stewardship Code. Signatories are integrating stewardship and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) factors into investment decisions, to high standards.Whilst this is ostensibly limited to U.K. pension assets, ramifications are more far-reaching than it might at first appear (one indication is the number of North American and Asia Pacific signatories, in addition to the expected European names). More specifically, the broad relevance is because it:<ul>
<li>Affects firms doing business with U.K. asset managers/owners not just the managers/owners.</li>
<li>Is a quasi-blueprint for similar anti-greenwashing initiatives taking root in the U.S. and Asia.</li>
<li>Greenwashing is having an increasing impact on stocks prices (e.g., DWS Group last month).</li>
</ul>This is one battle in an emerging global war on greenwashing. The U.S. SEC has its own agenda to fight greenwashing and Asia isn't far behind (e.g., regulators in Japan stepping up scrutiny). There is more to come, and a lot to learn from this including who is (and is not) on the signatory list.

Any Overhang Slightly Higher</a> just before the TOPIX FFW announcement. Things have been quiet since then, but the Company has steadily made progress ticking off the matters which were part of the company's corrective action plan after the sales scandal of 2019-2020. Getting these things finalised effectively "proves" that the company is ready to be let loose of its parent company, but importantly, the corrective action plan was couched in terms that basically said the only good way forward was to have a better and more comprehensive product suite, which would require being free of the burdens of the "Approval System."<div class="content-remarks">

</div><h2>The NEW News</h2>Today, with full-year earnings, Japan Post Insurance announced a buyback of up to 162,906,300 shares (29.0%) spending up to ¥439.8bn. This will be done in a ToSTNeT-3 transaction Monday morning. Japan Post Holdings announced they would sell a similar number of shares into the buy order, and would sell an additional 400,000 shares held in a trust. By so doing, the percentage of Japan Post Insurance voting rights held by Japan Post Holdings would drop to 49.90%. That's it. A HUGELY accretive buyback leads to a huge business opportunity for a hugely undervalued life insurer (about to become substantially more undervalued on Price/EEV terms) which has been handcuffed for its whole existence. What more do you want?

* The Fraud: COO Liu and several others have been charged with inflating Luckin Coffee' s (LK.US) revenues beginning 2Q19 – at the point of the IPO – through 4Q19 to the tune of CNY 2.2 bn (USD 310 mn), or ~50% of estimated sales for the last three quarters of 2019.* International Banker Risk:Founder has a USD 340 mn margin loan with Morgan Stanley (MS.US); CS Group (CS.US); and Haitong International (665.HK). Founder also established a family trust with a from Barclays (BARC.LN) and Goldman Sachs (GS.US). CS Group was the lead manager of Luckin Coffee’s IPO, as well as follow-on secondary and convertible debt offerings. On the insurance front, Luckin reportedly filed claims with Ping An Insurance (2318.HK), Allianz (ALV.GR), and Zurich Insurance (ZURN.VX); and   * CAR Look Through:In addition to the common ownership of Luckin Coffee and CAR, Inc.(699.HK), and common former senior company officer problem, we also note that Ernst &amp; Young in mainland China audits both companies.
