Periscope Analytics

Periscope Analytics focuses on event-driven trades across Asia Pacific and provides comprehensive, timely and systematic coverage of index changes to major Asia Pacific indices in a structured manner.

The analysis includes forecasted inclusions and exclusions to all major Asian indices that have significant amount of tracking assets, including estimates of passive buy/sell flow on the stocks. The service also provides commentary and impact of market consultations, ground rule changes, and other events (IPOs, spin-offs, M&A) that could lead to index changes and passive flow.

<li>There has also been a jump in the Hang Seng Stock Connect China AH Premium Index and big inflows to mainland China ETF raising the possibility of National Team buying.</li>
<li>A stabilisation in onshore China markets could lead to the AH premium dropping back towards parity and we would gradually scale out of long A/ short H positions.</li>

The premium of Ping An Insurance Group of (601318 CH) to Ping An Insurance (H) (2318 HK) has jumped from 4% to 14% in the space of a week.
There has also been a jump in the Hang Seng Stock Connect China AH Premium Index and big inflows to mainland China ETF raising the possibility of National Team buying.
A stabilisation in onshore China markets could lead to the AH premium dropping back towards parity and we would gradually scale out of long A/ short H positions.

For a second week running, there were big inflows to mainland China ETFs and were spread across multiple index trackers. There were outflows from iShares Emerging Markets (EEM US).

Hang Seng has announced the conclusions of the market consultation. Primary-listed foreign stocks will be eligible for inclusion in the HSI INDEX and HSTECH INDEX from the December rebalance.
The coming week has the rebalances for the NIFTY Index, Nifty Next 50 Index, Nifty Bank Index and SENSEX Index as a result of the HDFC Limited/ HDFC Bank merger.
There were inflows to Tracker Fund of Hong Kong Ltd (2800 HK) and outflows from Hang Seng H Share Index ETF (2828 HK) during the week.

<li>Two thirds of the way through the review period for the June rebalance of the CSI500 Index, we forecast 50 changes (the maximum permitted) at the close on 8 December.</li>
<li>There is a big sector skew in the potential changes. We estimate a one-way turnover of 10.1% at the December rebalance resulting in a one-way trade of CNY 6.75bn.</li>
<li>The potential adds have outperformed the potential deletes and the CSI500 Index over the last six weeks. There could be more outperformance till nearer the end of the review period.</li>
