Our focus is on what we call “Asian bank research, without the noise.” We are interested in the most critical swing-factors for banks, the NPL and credit cycle, and where we believe there is a gap between perception and reality. Analysis of BIS bank guidelines in the context of Asia, is also a focal point, while we also analyze global banks operating in the region. We use what we believe is the most comprehensive, reliable financials database, SNL Financial. S&P Capital IQ augments our database, with corporate data and CEIC, with economics.

US Banks - Another Week of >4% YoY Loan Growth, Credit Metrics Look Good: Meager LLR Growth

<li>Weekly loan data is up a lot in week ending 2 July suggesting the geopolitical events are not negating credit demand in the US - demand is accelerating.</li>
<li>Over the past three weeks loans are up USD119bn and there is no other 3 week period that compares in recent months. </li>
<li>Total loan growth is now 4.2% YoY where C&amp;I loan growth accelerated from 2.3% YoY to 3.2% YoY, in the most recent week.</li>
</ul>


Weekly loan data is up a lot in week ending 2 July suggesting the geopolitical events are not negating credit demand in the US - demand is accelerating.

<li>The EIA reported a 55 Bcf storage build, while analysts forecasted a 48 Bcf increase. Storage levels are 6.2% above the five-year average but 5.6% below year-ago levels.</li>
<li>BlackRock may offload its gas pipeline stake back to Aramco, while JP Morgan cut its 12-month PT on SLB and Goldman Sachs did the same for Halliburton.</li>
</ul>
