Equity Bottom-Up

Revenue for 3Q 2016 increased 3.3% YoY to SG$ 49.7 million as compared to SG$ 48.1 million during 3Q 2015. The increase in revenue came on the back of strong performance from the healthcare segment and improvement in the occupancy rate in the property segment. This increase was partially offset by the 77% decrease in revenue from the leisure segment.
The company reported solid gross margin of 65.1% during the quarter as against 59.6% during 3Q 2015 as the margin of healthcare segment increased further. Other income which mainly includes dividend income from available-for-sale financial assets increased 15.7% to $26.2 million mainly due to the absence of one-off loss on disposal of available-for-sale financial assets in the prior year period. The increase in gross margin and other income helped the company to improve its net profits from SG$ 34.9 million in 3Q 2015 to SG$ 42.4 million in 3Q 2016, an increase of 21.3% YoY.

However, operating income fell 18.7% YoY to SG$ 51 million mainly due to a 26% decline in other income [which includes lower dividend and investment income from the group’s equity investments].
Net profit decreased by 58.3% to SG$ 48.4 million as compared with the same period last year mainly due to weak dividend income and large one-time gain reported in last year’s Q2FY15 from partial disposal and reclassification of Hua Han Health Industry Holdings Ltd. [previously an associate company of Haw Par]. EPS came at SG$ 0.22 against SG$ 0.53 in the prior year quarter.
