JSW Steel’s Q3/20-21 results were clearly solid. Quarterly EBITDA reached a record high, driven by the favourable operating environment (higher steel prices) and growing vertical integration (on the ramp-up of captive iron ore). The financial risk profile improved significantly. We expect near-term prospects to stay favourable, given the constructive outlook for the steel operating environment. We revise our fundamental Credit Bias to “Stable” from "Negative", on account of the solid operating performance amid challenging market conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That said, we remain wary of the aggressive debt-funded expansion plan, particularly the M&A risk related to the pending acquisition of Bhushan Power & Steel Limited.
