Lucror Analytics is a leading credit and ESG research specialist and a provider of technology solutions for differentiated fixed income strategies. Tata Motors Limited's Q3/20-21 results were significantly better than expected (as was the case in Q2), with impressive profitability and positive FCF (net of interest) for both Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Tata Motors India (TML). The financial risk profile continued to improved, but remained at an elevated level. Liquidity is sound at JLR, but weak at TML. However, we note that Q3/20-21 sales could have been exceptionally strong, as indicated by management during the earnings call. We expect revenue and earnings to continue facing pressure (albeit less severely than previously projected) until FYE 2021-22. Leverage should remain elevated in the near future. It is also unclear if this level of profitability is sustainable. We expect costs to revert/rebound as the operating environment improves and the need for cost-cutting measures eases. JLR has been able to generate FCF over the past two quarters, thanks to cost savings.
