This reflects the company's: [1] high-quality assets and leading position in the Chinese coal sector; [2] decent track record of operations; and [3] close affiliation with, and strategic importance to, the Shandong government. Our assessment also takes into account: [1] earnings being dependent on coal price fluctuations; [2] the improving financial profile; and [3] exposure to adverse movements of the USD against the CNY.<br/><br/> Our fundamental Credit Bias on Yanzhou is "Positive", reflecting its potentially enhanced SOE status following the completion of a proposed merger between parent Yankuang and Shandong Energy, another SOE coal miner.<br/><br/> We view the group as “Weak” on the LAGA scale. Yanzhou is 56% owned by Yankuang, an SOE in turn held by the Shandong SASAC. We view negatively the recurring related-party transactions between Yanzhou and Yankuang in unrelated businesses. Yankuang also has a significant presence on Yanzhou’s Board and among its senior management, and we believe the diversity of the company's independent directors could be improved. That said, the company’s dual listings on the SSE and HKEX give increased transparency and disclosure.<br/></p>

<p>The first sector discussed is <strong>Consumer</strong>, where H/A spreads narrowed on average 2.7% for the week after narrowing 1.4% last week. Spreads are now just about flat over a four-week period. Every liquid H outperformed their A except for <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/guangzhou-automobile-group-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:11082:1" rel="noopener">Guangzhou Automobile Group (2238 HK)</a> despite significant net selling of the Hs by Southbound accounts (selling on <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/byd-co-ltd-h" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:20962:1" rel="noopener">BYD (1211 HK)</a> accounted for most of the net selling. The average H in the sector was up 10% on the week, which is remarkable. On average the liquid Hs in the cluster are up 27% in 4 weeks (none up less than 17%) and 35% since the start of the Golden Week holiday. </p>

A recent addition is the possible status of H/A-share companies in the monitor which are subject to the Trump Executive Order on Chinese Military Companies. They are separated into three types (Possible Direct Qualifying Entity, Possible Indirect Qualifying Entity, and 20+%-owned by Qualifying Entity). They are color-coded as below.

The first sector discussed is Consumer, where H/A spreads narrowed on average 2.7% for the week after narrowing 1.4% last week. Spreads are now just about flat over a four-week period. Every liquid H outperformed their A except for Guangzhou Automobile Group (2238 HK) despite significant net selling of the Hs by Southbound accounts (selling on BYD (1211 HK) accounted for most of the net selling. The average H in the sector was up 10% on the week, which is remarkable. On average the liquid Hs in the cluster are up 27% in 4 weeks (none up less than 17%) and 35% since the start of the Golden Week holiday. 


Southbound investors through the Shenzhen-HK and Shanghai-HK Connect were heavy net sellers on the week and have now sold HK$3bn+ over four weeks, with most of the net selling in the sector coming from Southbound selling of BYD.  Hisense Home Appliances Group Co., Ltd.
