Athaporn Arayasantiparb, CFA

Athaporn served as Head of Research for UOB and ANZ in Thailand and was an award-winning telecoms analyst at UBS in 2010 (AsiaMoney Thailand category) and Regional Strategist for DMG in Singapore. Prior to that, he also served as Kasikornbank credit analyst and scholar. He has a total work experience of 22 years, of which 19 were in research and 9 in research management roles. He started his career as an engineer for PTT and currently manages family investments. He holds an MBA from Stern (NYU) and CFA Charter since 2006.

<p>After PTT and the all-powerful Ministry of Finance, the <strong>Crown Property Bureau, </strong>which manages both the King's private and listed assets, is probably the most powerful quasi-state entity. Given the laissez-faire management at the top, CPB companies typically emerge as autonomous and diverse cultures, whereas PTT is highly acquisitive. The two flagship companies include Siam Cement and SCB, the most valuable bank in Thailand. From an investment standpoint, we like SCB but are not fans of Siam Cement, where we feel the Street has gotten way too bullish. Nevertheless, it is interesting to study their diverse businesses and the impact they have on markets.</p>
