Paytm Money wealth app launch by the popular digital wallet firm Paytm has excited the street about prospects of a large number of first-time investors entering the wealth products as against bank deposits.The app is user-friendly and currently offers 25 top mutual funds to investors (without charging any advisory fee). It is targeting to reach 50m users in five years time but the app is not linked to the popular wallet Paytm.As SEBI does not allow any cash back or offers for using the app, growth will be difficult given low levels of financial literacy. Any projections based on success Chinese fintech industry may only lead to disappointmentSmall investors also prefer fixed return products or money market funds where the risk are low as many are moving away from FDs for first time.
