<ul><li>Thailand’s lower inflation rate compared to its trade partners (Figure 1) has led to higher real interest rates, which could attract more foreign investment into Thai assets.</li><li>This, in turn, increases demand for the baht and causes it to appreciate against other currencies in nominal terms (Nominal Effective Exchange Rate – NEER).</li><li>However, when considering the Real Effective Exchange Rate (REER), which adjusts for inflation differences, the baht remains weak relative to competing countries (Figure 2). </li></ul>
