<ul><li>The forecast for the second reading of 1Q25E GDP (to be announced on May 29) is now at -0.34% QoQ (using the trimmed mean method), a deeper contraction than the first estimate of -0.30% QoQ.</li><li>The decline was pressured by a surge in imports ahead of the implementation of reciprocal tariffs (resulting in a high trade deficit) and weak consumption, which accounts for 70% of GDP.</li><li>The slowdown is also expected to persist into 2Q25E, as reflected by April’s personal consumption expenditures (PCE), scheduled for release on May 30, which are likely to decelerate (the market expects +0.2% MoM vs. +0.7% MoM in the previous month) following a pre-tariff surge in auto and parts purchases.</li></ul>
