Athaporn served as Head of Research for UOB and ANZ in Thailand and was an award-winning telecoms analyst at UBS in 2010 (AsiaMoney Thailand category) and Regional Strategist for DMG in Singapore. Prior to that, he also served as Kasikornbank credit analyst and scholar. He has a total work experience of 22 years, of which 19 were in research and 9 in research management roles. He started his career as an engineer for PTT and currently manages family investments. He holds an MBA from Stern (NYU) and CFA Charter since 2006.

<p>In this review, we look at some interesting titbits from Facebook's origina stories from <em>The Facebook Effect </em>by David Kirkpatrick and highlight what it means for Thailand. In our view, it is Facebook, with its unique business model and giant customer base, rather than Netflix, which is basically an online pay TV service, that has better potential of becoming Thailand's biggest TV broadcaster. The programs with the highest TV rating in Thailand has less than 800k audience now, down from 1.8m in the digital days, which is only a fraction of Facebook's active use base (40m) in the country. This is likely to pose some threat if Facebook succeeds. We also highlight:</p><ul><li>a few things they may have to get right before reaching that status.</li><li>the potential positive impact on their stock price (limited) or damage it may cause to listed Thai media sector (significant).</li></ul>
