Phil Rush

Philip Rush is the Founder and Chief Economist of Heteronomics. Until launching in November 2016, he was Nomura's Senior European Economist and was the Chief UK Economist there since 2010. Before that, he was UK Economist at Barclays Wealth, where he also developed strategic asset allocation models for their market return portfolios. Philip started his career at Lehman Brothers covering the UK, Scandinavian and Swiss economies. A book on his fundamental framework was published in January 2018 as "Real Market Economics".

Heteronomics

Heteronomics represents a different kind of economics. <li>Unemployment partly reversed its shock drop with a rise to 5% in March, as the labour force recovered as we forecast. There was still a slight underlying improvement in Q1.</li>
<li>March’s weakness arose from the ONS’s statistical adjustments, not raw responses, and seems to have been narrowly triggered by a student failing to find flexible work. </li>
<li>Pay data were mixed, with weakness in private pay, ex-bonuses, providing an excuse to hold rates in June. But other measures are 4-5% and rising, encouraging a July rate hike.</li>
