Once attractive trends are identified within a selected sector or group, we screen for individual stocks which we believe offer the best risk/reward profile. We provide a historical perspective that often reveals, through our long-term charts, how price patterns often repeat themselves over time.

<li>Komatsu reported 4QFY22 results on the 28th of April and recorded revenue of ¥787bn (6.2% above consensus) and OP of ¥94.5bn (13.1% above consensus). </li>
<li>They also guided for revenue to increase 7.1% YoY vs. HCM which guided for a 6.3% fall driving a significant and premature share price decline. </li>
<li>The market has corrected some of that fall as it appears to increasingly agree with our call that HCM’s guidance was nonsense conservatism.</li>

Komatsu – Sensible Top Line Guidance But Margins Too Conservative

<li>They beat consensus by 9.8% and 19.0% at the revenue and OP levels respectively. </li>
<li>That puts it on track to hit the high end of our ¥305-325bn OP estimate for the FY but upside is relatively moderate compared to HCM.</li>
</ul>

<li>On Thursday we saw news of a Hitachi sale of half its stake in HCM. Friday the stock traded down hard. Friday night saw news that underwhelmed further. </li>
<li>The deal is big, but it is basically a deal to get Hitachi out as parent. There is no Capital Alliance and there is no Strategic Alliance yet. </li>
<li>There simply is not much there, there yet. And the stock is less liquid than it looks, and that won't get better any time soon.</li>
</ul>
