<p>Big Hit Entertainment announced its IPO pricing today. The IPO was priced at 135,000 won, which was at the highest end of the IPO price range. The Big Hit Entertainment IPO will start trading on October 15th. The company will complete its retail offering on October 6th. </p><p>Our view on the Big Hit Entertainment IPO has been negative and continues to be negative. However, the bookbuilding data suggest that bookbuilding was a big success. There was an overwhelming positive sentiment on this IPO bookbuilding.</p><div class="content-highlight"><p>Thus, our bearish call on this stock is turning out to be the <strong>BIGGEST </strong><strong>CONTRARIAN CALL </strong>that we have made all this year. However, is our contrarian call one that will turn into a bust? In this insight, we provide the price action comparisons of SK Holdings (034730 KS),Kakao Corp (035720 KS), and Netmarble Corporation (251270 KS) prior to the IPOs and their bookbuilding dates of SK Biopharm, Kakao Games, and Big Hit Entertainment. 
Unlike SK Holdings and Kakao Corp whose share price prices increased in the one and two weeks prior to the start of the bookbuilding of SK Biopharm and Kakao Games, Netmarble Corp's share price has been declining in the one and two weeks prior to the start of the bookbuilding of Big Hit Entertainment. 

We believe this is a BAD sign for the Big Hit Entertainment IPO since it could signal that after analyzing the prospectus of Big Hit Entertainment IPO, many institutional investors may conclude this IPO will be disappointing. 


Comparison of SK Holdings, Kakao, & Netmarble Prior to IPOs of SK Biopharm, Kakao Games, & Big Hit

In 2019, Big Hit Entertainment launched an online platform called <strong>WeVerse</strong> where fans can watch concerts live and where Big Hit artists and their fans can communicate. Big Hit Entertainment (BHE) established BNX as a consolidated subsidiary in July 2018 and BHE launched the <strong>WeVerse Shop</strong> (global fan commerce application) and <strong>WeVerse</strong> (global fan community application) in June 2019. </li>

</table><p>At the mid-level (₩82.5B), the 12M PER range on the indicative price band is 43~55x, which is acceptably higher than the three direct valuation peers.</p><p>But things can get crazy once we see the same pattern as the previous two IPOs (SKBP and Kakao G). At 2x the upper end, 12M PER will soar to 111x, which is about 3x the local peer average.</p><table class="table table-striped">

But this is misleading because SM and YG's earnings for this year aren't aligned with a normalized level.Below is the 12M forward PER comparison, which should be a more normalized picture.Big Hit's 12M earnings band is ₩75~90B. At the upper end of the indicative price band, the PER range is 51~61x.

At the mid-level (₩82.5B), the 12M PER range on the indicative price band is 43~55x, which is acceptably higher than the three direct valuation peers.But things can get crazy once we see the same pattern as the previous two IPOs (SKBP and Kakao G). At 2x the upper end, 12M PER will soar to 111x, which is about 3x the local peer average.

<p><span>KOSPI 200 inclusion for a newly listed stock is as follows:</span></p><p><span>If the average daily market cap of an IPO stock stays in the top 50 ordinary shares on KOSPI for the first 15 trading days since listing, it will become eligible to join KOSPI 200 through fast track.</span></p><div>
<p>The ceiling of the IPO price gives a ₩4.85tril, which then places Big Hit at the 51st largest stock on KOSPI.</p>
<p>The opening price range on a listing day is 90~200%. If it hits the upper end (like SK Biopharm), it will reach a company value of ₩9.7tril, which is enough to be sitting at 32nd.</p>
<p>Then, if it hits the daily limit (30%), again just like SK Biopharm, its MC will be ₩12.6tril, which is right above Samsung Life at the 27th spot.</p>
