<p>The Hang Seng Indexes Company Limited (HSIL) should announce the results of the March 2021 review of the Hang Seng Family of Indexes on 19 February. The constituent changes will be effective after the close of trading on 5 March.</p><p>We expect the March 21 review for the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/hang-seng-china-enterprises-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22900:1" rel="noopener">Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI INDEX)</a> to have only 1 deletion, though there is a low probability of another set of changes. Post <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/jd-health-international" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:29677:1" rel="noopener">JD Health (6618 HK)</a>'s Fast Entry into the index, there needs to be one deletion at the March review. At the current time, the lowest ranked index constituent is <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/petrochina-co-ltd-h" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:262:1" rel="noopener">Petrochina Co Ltd H (857 HK)</a> and the stock should be deleted at the March review.</p><p>There was a medium probability of <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/country-garden-services-holdings-company-limited" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:27343:1" rel="noopener">Country Garden Services Holdings (6098 HK)</a> being included in the index. That has now become a low probability event post <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/jd-health-international" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:29677:1" rel="noopener">JD Health (6618 HK)</a>'s inclusion in the index. If <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/country-garden-services-holdings-company-limited" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:27343:1" rel="noopener">Country Garden Services Holdings (6098 HK)</a> is included in the index, then <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/hengan-intl-group-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:29:1" rel="noopener">Hengan Intl Group (1044 HK)</a> could be deleted.</p><p>The potential changes to the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/hang-seng-china-enterprises-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22900:1" rel="noopener">Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI INDEX)</a> over the next 6 months will also have serious implications for the dividend futures expiring in 2021, 2022 and beyond.</p>

<p>The first sector discussed is <strong>Consumer</strong>, where H/A spreads narrowed on average 1.4% for the week, after running 0.6% wider the previous week. Individual stock movement in the sector was striking. <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/byd-co-ltd-h" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:20962:1" rel="noopener">BYD (1211 HK)</a>, <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/great-wall-motor-co-ltd-cb302af9-398c-4d2d-ba39-023e43287eef" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:128:1" rel="noopener">Great Wall Motor (2333 HK)</a>, and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/guangzhou-automobile-group-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:11082:1" rel="noopener">Guangzhou Automobile Group (2238 HK)</a> narrowed again on very weak A-share performance in the week, and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/tsingtao-brewery-co-ltd-h" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:1296:1" rel="noopener">Tsingtao Brewery Co Ltd H (168 HK)</a> narrowed despite strong performance on the week. The Tsingtao spread remains 4% wider through four weeks but is now at 33%. Performance was volatile in the cluster on the week, but on average the liquid Hs in the cluster are up 19% in 4 weeks and 27% since the start of the Golden Week holiday. </p>

<p>Southbound investors through the Shenzhen-HK and Shanghai-HK Connect were heavy net sellers on the week with most of the net selling in the sector coming from Southbound selling of BYD.  <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/hisense-home-appliances-group-co-ltd-h" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:20107:1" rel="noopener">Hisense Home Appliances Group Co., Ltd. H (921 HK)</a> is substantially less liquid, but net southbound selling on the week accounted for a remarkable 65% of volume.</p>

Changed this week is that I have removed the spreads from the sector charts when the H-shares have low ADV


The first sector discussed is Consumer, where H/A spreads narrowed on average 1.4% for the week, after running 0.6% wider the previous week. Individual stock movement in the sector was striking. BYD (1211 HK), Great Wall Motor (2333 HK), and Guangzhou Automobile Group (2238 HK) narrowed again on very weak A-share performance in the week, and Tsingtao Brewery Co Ltd H (168 HK) narrowed despite strong performance on the week. The Tsingtao spread remains 4% wider through four weeks but is now at 33%. Performance was volatile in the cluster on the week, but on average the liquid Hs in the cluster are up 19% in 4 weeks and 27% since the start of the Golden Week holiday. 


Southbound investors through the Shenzhen-HK and Shanghai-HK Connect were heavy net sellers on the week with most of the net selling in the sector coming from Southbound selling of BYD.  Hisense Home Appliances Group Co., Ltd. H (921 HK) is substantially less liquid, but net southbound selling on the week accounted for a remarkable 65% of volume.


BYD (1211 HK) remains at the overbought end of the 52-week range. Great Wall Motor (2333 HK), and Tsingtao Brewery Co Ltd H (168 HK) are at or near 52-week wides.


There were no sector spread recommendations last week in this sector, for the second week in a row. This week I recommend going long the H vs A on Great Wall Motor (2333 HK).

<p>With everything almost done and dusted on the HSCEI 2020 dividend futures, the focus has shifted firmly to the HSCEI dividend futures contract expiring in 2021.</p><p>The HSCEI 2021 dividend futures contract has dropped from a high of almost 500 index points in May 2018 and 400 index points in January 2020 to just 278 index points now. The change is mostly driven by Hang Seng Indexes' decision to include WVR securities and Secondary Listings in the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/hang-seng-china-enterprises-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22900:1" rel="noopener">Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI INDEX)</a>, and with COVID-19 contributing to a sharp drop in company earnings.</p><p>The HSCEI 2021 dividend futures are trading near our fair value at the moment. However, there are still many more catalysts that will keep things interesting for the next few months. Further changes in the index composition and the capping applied to WVR securities and Secondary Listings, pressure on megabanks to support the real economy at the expense of profits and shareholder return, and companies that have never paid dividends starting to pay are just some of them.</p><p>We discuss all this in more detail below.</p>
