The 1% gain on Thursday was aided by the Bank of Japan US$1.8 billion purchase of ETFs which represented 4.3% of the value traded in TOPIX and is 80% of the average monthly total of such purchases over the last nine years. We expect the central bank to be in the market again at a similar level of commitment on Monday. Global Markets Outlook: Maintain Defensive Posture

<p>Improvements in Japan are leading broad developed int’l indexes higher. The MSCI EAFE, local currency is bullishly inflecting above its downtrend and putting an end to the YTD pattern of lower highs. Both the <strong>TOPIX</strong> and <strong>Nikkei 225 </strong>have continued to improve, and now the <strong>TOPIX Small </strong>index is also bullishly inflecting. We provide a technical appraisal of major global markets, and highlight a number of actionable stocks within Japan, and across international markets.</p>
