JPX-Nikkei 400 is composed of common stocks listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It is a free-float-adjusted market-value-weighted (capped) index composed of 400 constituents.

Periscope Analytics

The analysis includes forecasted inclusions and exclusions to all major Asian indices that have significant amount of tracking assets, including estimates of passive buy/sell flow on the stocks. <li>Up to 12 stocks could be deleted from global passive portfolios in August. The deletion will lead to liquidity events where trackers will need to sell multiple days of ADV.</li>
<li>There has been a buildup of shorts on nearly all these stocks though the extent of the pre-positioning varies.</li>
<li>The increase in shorts is smaller than the estimated passive selling, though there is a fair amount of variability across the names. </li>
</ul>

Japan - Passive Selling in a Few Weeks & Shorts Build Up

<li>An interview in the <a href="https://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXZQOUC05BL30V00C24A7000000/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nikkei</a> of <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/koito-manufacturing-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:15841:1" rel="noopener">Koito Manufacturing (7276 JP)</a> CFO Takahito OTAKE offered the comment that Koito Mfg expected a shareholder return of 130% a year through March 2029.</li>
<li>The stock popped 19% after lunch on that comment, then fell back to end up 5.0%.</li>
<li>This is the same pop as we saw end-March. Then it was +24.6% and it stayed up the next day. Same reason for the pop. This was an echo.</li>

An interview in the Nikkei of Koito Manufacturing (7276 JP) CFO Takahito OTAKE offered the comment that Koito Mfg expected a shareholder return of 130% a year through March 2029.
The stock popped 19% after lunch on that comment, then fell back to end up 5.0%.
