<ul><li>We are more positive on the long-term outlook for the electricity sector and upgrade Contact Energy (CEN) to OUTPERFORM and Meridian Energy (MEL) and Manawa Energy (MNW) to NEUTRAL.</li><li>Driving the more positive outlook of the sector is a view that wholesale electricity prices are likely to be higher than previously thought.</li><li>Factors behind the assumption change include stronger near-term electricity demand growth requiring more high cost baseload thermal generation for longer and the need to build generation projects higher up the demand stack. </li></ul>

It wasn’t such a good month for EV dealers.</li><li>MNW was the strongest performing electricity stock in March 2024 following its guidance upgrade.</li><li>Strong electricity demand growth continues and now appears to be a trend which is positive for medium-term pricing, although continued big falls in solar panel prices will help offset some of those pricing effects. </li></ul></div></div></div></div>

<ul><li>Manawa Energy's (MNW) FY24 EBITDAF guidance upgrade (+11% at the midpoint) is encouraging, notwithstanding three of the four factors cited for the upgrade are more one-off in nature and come from favourable 2H24 operating conditions.</li><li>The most positive aspect of the upgrade is the indication MNW has been able to reduce operating costs, which is particularly encouraging given the current inflationary environment.</li><li>We have increased our target price +25cps (+6.7%) to NZ$3.95 with the earnings upgrades also enabling a dividend increase. </li></ul>
