DOUBLE-DIGIT YOY GROWTH BUT RISING COSTS A CONCERN- 27% of Japanese listed companies reported earnings results last week. In aggregate, the group saw year-on-year trailing-twelve-month (TTM) growth in revenue and operating income of 10.7% and 19.0%, respectively.  The quarter-on-quarter growth rates are, however, showing a declining trend. Global equities continue to stabilize, with the MSCI ACWI’s 50-day moving average acting like a magnet as prices have oscillated above and below it. More importantly, support levels have held and long-term uptrends are intact. While we expect to see continued heightened volatility and consolidation, our long-term outlook for global equities remains bullish.  In today’s report we put a spotlight on Japan, broad Europe, Germany, and the UK, where small-caps are outperforming large-caps.

Custom Products was started 14 years ago at Lehman Brothers by current co-founder Patrick Hansen, CFA. After 3 years at Lehman, Patrick moved the team to Macquarie Securities where Simon Rigney (co-founder) joined. 3 years ago we took Custom Products independent. 

Our core strength can be summed up three words. 1- Customization - we have very little off the shelf products and most work is done on a one on one bespoke basis. 2- Speed - We pride ourselves in our ability to get requests back to the client very quickly. 3- Confidentiality - We do not redistribute. There is no grace period where we wait a week and then mass blast. Any request stops with that client.

We compared the different sectors PBR levels in Japan to see which sectors may be still undervalued and which may have gone up a little too much. If you look at the table below, at 2.7x the Consumer Non-Durables PBR is 123% above the 8-year low. Commercial Services' PBR is lower at 2.1x but is also 122% above the low. The overall Japan PBR is at 1.4x and is 50% above the 8-year low. On the other side, Distribution Services' PBR is below 1 at 0.9x and is only 22% above the 8-year low.
