Periscope Analytics

Periscope Analytics focuses on event-driven trades across Asia Pacific and provides comprehensive, timely and systematic coverage of index changes to major Asia Pacific indices in a structured manner.

The analysis includes forecasted inclusions and exclusions to all major Asian indices that have significant amount of tracking assets, including estimates of passive buy/sell flow on the stocks. The service also provides commentary and impact of market consultations, ground rule changes, and other events (IPOs, spin-offs, M&A) that could lead to index changes and passive flow.

Periscope Analytics works with multi-strategy hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, stat arb trading groups and long-only investors that invest and trade in the Asia Pacific region with the data being used to trade index rebalances, avoid pre-positioning and passive flow, and to time entry into and exit from stocks.

<li>The review period for the September rebalance ends on 31 July, the changes will be announced towards end August and implemented at the close of trading on 7 September.</li>
<li>There is one change currently for each of the Secondary Battery, Bio and Game indices. Then there are a couple of changes for the Internet and BBIG indices.</li>
<li>There are four stocks that will have over 2 days of ADV to trade from passive trackers and these stocks could move around announcement of the changes.</li>

<li>KB Asset Management has announced the release of an inverse ETF, containing the top 10 core stocks in the secondary battery sector.</li>
<li>Given the substantial fluctuations in SSF trading volume in Korea, the flow increase of this ETF might temporarily lead to an unusually high level of backwardation.</li>
<li>Also, we may observe a phenomenon known as 'wag-the-dog' as the flow of this inverse ETF could act as a triggering factor for a temporary spark.</li>

<li>On 10 July, it was reported in the Hankyung Business Daily that Posco DX (022100 KS) could switch its listing from KOSDAQ to KOSPI by the end of 2023.</li>
<li>One of the key reasons for the change in the listing venue from KOSDAQ to KOSPI is that POSCO Group believes this could lead to improved valuations for the company.</li>
<li>We believe the valuations of Posco DX have become too high. Therefore, we have a Negative View of Posco DX at current prices. </li>

Coming Friday will mark the end of the review period for the next rebalance of the HSI, HSCEI, HSTECH, HSCI, LQ45, PCOMP as well as the SET50 June implementation.
With Japan indices moving higher, the largest inflows went into ETFs tracking the Nikkei 225 (NKY INDEX) and other local/global indices.
