Periscope Analytics

Periscope Analytics focuses on event-driven trades across Asia Pacific and provides comprehensive, timely and systematic coverage of index changes to major Asia Pacific indices in a structured manner.

The analysis includes forecasted inclusions and exclusions to all major Asian indices that have significant amount of tracking assets, including estimates of passive buy/sell flow on the stocks. The service also provides commentary and impact of market consultations, ground rule changes, and other events (IPOs, spin-offs, M&A) that could lead to index changes and passive flow.

Periscope Analytics works with multi-strategy hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, stat arb trading groups and long-only investors that invest and trade in the Asia Pacific region with the data being used to trade index rebalances, avoid pre-positioning and passive flow, and to time entry into and exit from stocks.

<li>The review period for the March rebalance of the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/s-p-asx-200" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22901:1" rel="noopener">S&amp;P/ASX 200</a> and related indices ends on 16 February. The announcement of the changes will come couple of weeks later.</li>
<li>There were HUGE inflows to mainland China ETFs for yet another week as Central Huijin indicated that they would continue to buy/create ETFs units.</li>

The review period for the March rebalance of the S&amp;P/ASX 200 and related indices ends on 16 February. The announcement of the changes will come couple of weeks later.

<li>There are 10 stocks in inclusion zone and 11 in deletion zone. There should be 10 changes since that is the cap for the maximum changes at a single rebalance.</li>
<li>The potential adds and deletes are down between 37-47% over the last 6 months and a long/short trade could provide superior risk-adjusted returns.</li>
</ul>

<li>The record-breaking US$8.4 billion deal involving BMS and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/sichuan-biokin-pharmaceutical-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:40027:1" rel="noopener">Sichuan Biokin Pharmaceutical (688506 CH) </a>(SystImmune) is not without risk, though. We still recommend to remain rational.</li>
<li>The issue facing <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/shanghai-haoyuan-chemexpress" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:33415:1" rel="noopener">Shanghai Haoyuan Chemexpress (688131 CH)</a> is higher revenue but lower margins. Valuation will likely experience further declines due to lock-up expiry and share reduction.</li>

<li>Some stocks will have passive flows from global trackers at the end of November while there will be flows from other local passive trackers at the close on 8 December.</li>
</ul>
