<li>So far, 10 regional banks have upgraded guidance since Q1 results. One of them (Iyogin) twice. The average gain is +71.7% vs original H1 guidance (if we count Iyogin once).</li>
<li>This week will be the big push for new guidance ahead of a flood earnings reports the following week. Election results will cause concern, and the BOJ meets Thursday.</li>
<li>I expect a move in December (positive for banks), but it may be US Fed and $/¥-dependent. In the meantime banks enjoy tailwinds.</li>

<li>3D Investment Partners, known to be activist-ish-y, purchased 18% of <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/tohokushinsha-film-corp" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:15129:1" rel="noopener">Tohokushinsha Film (2329 JP)</a> in the 12 months to March 2024. They started a public activism campaign in February.</li>
<li>The company has started down a better governance track, but now 3D has made a takeover proposal to Tohokushinsha, which will consider it under Special Committee.</li>
<li>There are a couple of possible outcomes here which are interesting to consider. There are no other spoilers possible except those friendly to founders and management.</li>

<li>In the post meeting press briefing, governor Kazuo Ueda said there was an increasing chance of the BoJ's 2% inflation target being hit; JGB 10Y yields rose as a result</li>
<li>This implies that the BoJ could change from negative interest rate policy in the near future, perhaps as soon as March, which is positive for the Japanese bank sector’s fundamentals</li>
<li>We believe that this new will give further impetus to Japanese bank shares, especially those banks that are well geared into rising domestic interest rates; we highlight eight banks</li>

<li>It offered 28mm shares + 4.2mm greenshoe - a share count increase of 20%. At 0.27x book. This IS unusual. Especially when banks are being asked to produce better ROC. </li>
<li>The deal priced at ¥366. We're there now. Banks have been sold. It is worth looking at where we are and what could happen next. It's cheap.</li>
