<h2>Tourism Holdings</h2>
FY19 Result Initial Impressions
FY19 was a tough year for Tourism Holdings’ (THL) given the challenges in the US used vehicle sales market. Nonetheless, underlying performance at the EBIT level was only -2% below the prior year, given earnings growth in New Zealand rentals, Australian rentals (despite a dealership liquidation which impacted vehicle sales in the year) and the Tourism Group. New Zealand Rentals in particular had another strong year with further yield growth.
Group NPAT was materially lower than the prior year given the significant investment being made in Togo (included as a JV), THL’s tech JV with Thor (previously called TH2). The Togo investment (NZ$12.8m) in FY19 was less than management had previously indicated.
Operating cashflow remains positive (which incorporates fleet purchases and sales) despite the US fleet sales woes, reflective of the strength of THL’s business model. THL has announced a 14c final dividend consistent with its guidance.
Outlook
THL will provide first time FY20 profit guidance at its Annual Shareholder Meeting on 23 October 2019. There has been “little change” in management’s expectations or view on each market since the capital raise in June 2019. Forward bookings for both Rentals NZ and Rentals Australia &nbsp;are up on last year. One area of caution exists around Australian fleet sales, which were down -12% in FY19.
Our view
THL’s US challenges, which have dogged FY19, will continue into FY20 reflective of the cost of carrying a larger fleet (given its inability to sell as many vehicles as it would have liked) and on-going weakness in the used vehicle market. It is addressing the issue through a number of initiatives but is reliant on better market access through RV dealerships. In contrast, its businesses in New Zealand and Australia appear in relatively good health, particularly those in NZ, which have generated further ROFE improvement. With forward bookings in Australasia up on last year and valuation levels implying flat to declining profitability we retain a positive view on THL. OUTPERFORM.

Tourism Holdings
FY19 Result Initial Impressions
FY19 was a tough year for Tourism Holdings’ (THL) given the challenges in the US used vehicle sales market.
