<p>In the example for the H/A spreads in the <strong>Materials</strong> sector below, spreads were generally flat over the past five days and were wider by 1.5% over the past 20 days. <p><em>This insight is an H/A Spread Monitor Project offering a brief look at recent changes in H-Share/A-Share spreads, Southbound flow and impact, and where the spreads are trading within their own historical ranges.</em></p>
<p><em>Generically, H/A spreads are trading just off their tightest levels in a year. Spreads which are closer to the wide end of their 52-week range include Great Wall Motor, Tsingtao, some insurers and brokers, a couple of materials names and a couple of industrials. The two biggest net Southbound flows this past week in HKD terms were both sells - Tencent (700 HK) and Bank of China (3988 HK) at just over $550mm each.</em></p>

By shifting its focus to new areas, NTN aims to double its revenues by 2025 to about JPY 1.3tn while increasing its operating margin to 10-15% from the current 5.1%.</p><p>In April 2018, NTN<a href="https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Companies/Japan-s-NTN-to-supply-in-wheel-motor-tech-to-Chinese-startup" target="_blank"> concluded</a> a licensing contract with Chinese EV startup Changchun Fawsn Auto Tech (FSAT) to provide air cooled in-wheel motors and vehicle motion control systems. While the deal is still on paper, it is likely to serve as a significant growth trigger in the next 2-3 years. </p><p>However, in the short to medium-term we are sceptical on the company's growth prospects, largely due to its exposure to business cycles in regions that it operates in:</p><ul><li>FY2017 could mark the growth peak of its latest cycle and we expect revenue to remain flat in the coming two years.</li><li>Bottlenecks in its industrial machinery segment have prevented the company from keeping up with demand.</li><li>Japanese PMI has hit its highest point in four years and FY2018 could see a period of cooling.</li><li>The stronger yen, which has already pared export growth in March-April, could make the company’s products more expensive to end-users, mainly in Asia.</li><li>Lastly, the company has blamed the shrinking market in Japan for its falling aftermarket revenue. The company’s plan to increase market share in other regions could take time to materialise.</li></ul>

In our view, we should see a similar level of fixed-asset investment, or FAI, growth (8%-9%) in 2017, and the public-private partnership, or PPP, project financing method will play an increasingly instrumental role in infrastructure development. The National Development and Reform Commission, the nation’s top economic development planning agency, is targeting about 8% year-on-year FAI growth, with a heavy emphasis on transportation infrastructure development in both inland regions and prosperous coastal provinces. </p><p>The implied growth target in 2017 is in line with our assumption and reinforces our view that infrastructure firms with heavy PPP exposure (<a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/265" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:265:1">China Communications Construction Co Ltd (1800 HK)</a>, or CCCC, and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/265" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:265:1">China Communications Construction Co Ltd (1800 HK)</a>, or CSCI) are among the top beneficiaries in the latest transportation driven spending push.
