Buybacks (or "own share purchases") by listed companies Japan are likely to be at a record this year. In only the first 5 months of calendar 2016, Japanese companies have announced JPY 4.3trln yen of buybacks, and in the past ten years, only two full years have seen higher totals (2007 and 2015 at just over 4.5trln yen each).
