With a global economic slowdown, businesses in Singapore are cutting costs and rationalising their office space requirements and this was felt most in 1Q2016 when prices and rentals fell by 0.3% and 2.1% respectively on a quarterly basis, while pipeline office space supply grew slightly by 1.6% to 1.009 million square metres (sqm) in gross floor average (GFA) during the same time period.

Slow Return to Normalcy in Prices and Supply of Office Space in Singapore

The latest reading of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Real Estate Developers Association of Singapore (NUS-Redas) real estate sentiment index for 4Q2015 suggests that most developers are gradually turning pessimistic about the overall health of the real estate market in Singapore. The nine quarters of property cooling measures since 3Q2013 have a taken a toll on their overall sentiments, be it, to continue investing in the Singapore real estate market, or give up on any hope that the government will soon loosen the noose around the property cooling measures they have put in place since 2010.
