<p>Micron Technology announced its earnings on June 30, providing a lot of upbeat news while noting a few caveats.  The market is strong, the company is executing well, but tooling and new technologies will prevent margins from rising as high as they could.  Overall, the outlook for the company is good.</p>

<p>Our expectations for Micron's upcoming earnings call are very positive for four reasons:</p><ul>
<li>DRAM and NAND pricing is up</li>
<li>Demand has been solid for the whole first half, with no signs of softening</li>
<li>The company is shifting its mix to higher-margin products</li>

<p><a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/toshiba-corp" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:637:1" rel="noopener">Toshiba Corp (6502 JP)</a> announced results in mid-May along with a somewhat surprising plan to "return ¥150bn to shareholders", with method to be specified later - in early June. </p><p>On 7 June in the morning, Toshiba <a href="https://www.toshiba.co.jp/about/ir/en/news/20210607_1.pdf?_ga=2.28792570.77540220.1623036254-478027331.1623036254" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> how it would allocate that ¥150 billion.</p><div>

Toshiba fell ¥125/share today (29 June) closing at ¥4765 as that dividend went ex-.</li>

This one, is however, quite a bit smaller than that one was. </p>
<p>It is worth thinking about here. While Toshiba may not intend this to be a prisoner's dilemma situation, it resembles one. </p>
