We provide research and consultancy on Asian banks. Our focus is on what we call “Asian bank research, without the noise.” We are interested in the most critical swing-factors for banks, the NPL and credit cycle, and where we believe there is a gap between perception and reality. We often focus on the less studied components of bank financial statements.  Our research is highly thematic, sometimes examining unlisted banks and companies as a window on mainstream banks. 

Being independent allows us to look at smaller banks, often overlooked by others. Analysis of BIS bank guidelines in the context of Asia, is also a focal point, while we also analyze global banks operating in the region. We use what we believe is the most comprehensive, reliable financials database, SNL Financial. S&P Capital IQ augments our database, with corporate data and CEIC, with economics.

<p>There are few financials in Asia that compare with India’s gold lender, <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/muthoot-finance-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:15425:1" rel="noopener">Muthoot Finance (MUTH IN)</a>. While private lenders, state banks and housing finance companies suffer from the seemingly never-ending bad loan crisis in India, MUTH sits in glorious contrast. We further look to longer term relative profit of the gold lender to peer private banks and another regional powerhouse, which too shows its relative profit strength, over a sustained period of time. </p>

<li>Another week of inflows for the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/ishares-msci-emerging-markets-223f5da3-7054-4e4f-bc55-b7f0852c2581" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:31998:1" rel="noopener">iShares Emerging Markets ex-China (EMXC US)</a> ETF as creations cross US$2bn for 2024. ETF AUM has gone from US$420m in 2021 to US$11bn now!</li>

Another week of inflows for the iShares Emerging Markets ex-China (EMXC US) ETF as creations cross US$2bn for 2024. ETF AUM has gone from US$420m in 2021 to US$11bn now!

Changes are on expected lines.</li>
<li>Estimated one-way turnover for the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/nse-nifty-next-50-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:36053:1" rel="noopener">NSE Nifty Next 50 Index (NIFTYJR INDEX)</a> is 10.1% resulting in a one-way trade of INR 22.2bn (US$268m).</li>

Estimated one-way turnover for the NSE Nifty Next 50 Index (NIFTYJR INDEX) is 10.1% resulting in a one-way trade of INR 22.2bn (US$268m).
Apart from the impact on the adds and deletes, there will be a big impact on some of the non-F&amp;O stocks due to capping and funding flows.

<li>The review period for the March rebalance of the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/s-p-asx-200" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22901:1" rel="noopener">S&amp;P/ASX 200</a> and related indices ends on 16 February. The announcement of the changes will come couple of weeks later.</li>
