<p>After rising by 21% from ¥1,200 in late April to a 52-week high of ¥1,450, Nissin Electric  dropped back 1.7% today to ¥1,425. Over the past year, the shares have risen by 45%.</p><p>The strong recent performance is somewhat at odds with FY Mar-21 results and management's FY Mar-22 guidance. Last year's profits were above guidance, but new orders declined and this year's guidance has operating profit dropping by 7.7%. </p><p>On the other hand, management expects orders to rebound this year, which points to higher profits in FY Mar-23. Volatility in orders, sales and profits creates uncertainty, but in our estimation, the underlying trend in demand for the company's electric power and ion implant equipment is up.</p><p>At 15x management's EPS estimate for FY Mar-22, we see long-term upside potential on the order of 20%. Traders may want to take profits.</p>

<p>On April 15, the <em>Nikkei</em> reported that Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Organization for Cross-regional Coordination of Transmission Operators have drawn up plans to double the nation's interregional power grid capacity by linking the northern and southern islands of Hokkaido and Kyushu to the main island of Honshu and expanding connections between other regions. Details are expected to be announced later this month.</p><p>This should provide long-term support for Nissin Electric and other makers of electric power equipment. In the meantime, Nissin's power equipment, ion implant and other businesses are rebounding from the COVID downturn. </p><p>Projected valuations indicate 30% potential upside.</p>

<p>The results of the JPX Nikkei 400 review have been announced. There are 32 inclusions and 27 deletions to bring the number of constituents back to 400 and the changes will be effective after the close of trading on 27 November.</p><p>The index review is normally effective after the close of trading on  the second last trading day in August, but was postponed by 3 months this year because of the extension given to companies to file their annual reports and quarterly reports to 30 September owing to COVID-19.</p><p>These are the stocks that have been included and excluded from the index.</p><table class="table table-striped">

<p><strong>THE CASH CONVERSION CYCLE</strong> - Net Working Capital is a measure of how efficiently a company manages its short-term assets and liabilities to generate cash and is also known as the Cash Conversion Cycle. In practice, Net Working Capital is scaled by the number of days of Revenue or Cost of Goods Sold that are 'tied' up in three components - Receivables, Inventory, and Payables.</p>
<p><strong>Net Working Capital Days</strong> varies by industry and the lower the number, the better. Amounts over 210 days are excessive, and a sign of business stress.  Net Working Capital is defined as:-</p>
<ul>
<li>
<strong>+ Receivables/Revenue </strong>- the average number of days required to collect on sales. Businesses usually extend a degree of credit to non-cash customers.  Receivables Days over 100 are excessive.</li>
<li>
<strong>+ Inventory/Cost of Goods Sold -</strong> the average number of days it takes to sell out of Inventory. Amounts vary widely by industry but days over 210 are excessive.</li>
<li>- <strong>Payables/Cost of Goods Sold -</strong>the average number of days the company takes to settle transactions with suppliers. By extending nominally interest-free credit, suppliers provide operating leverage to a business. A larger negative number is better, but days less than -100 are excessive.</li>
</ul>
<p>The relationship between Receivables and Payables should also be considered particularly where the company is giving more generous credit terms to its customers than it receives from its suppliers. The Cash Conversion Cycle for the aggregate of all non-financial currently-listed Japanese companies has averaged 77 days over the last thirty years. However, over the previous twelve months., a fourteen-day rise in Inventory Days during the last four years has pushed Net Working Capital Days to 93.</p>
