Inspired by a trip to Zimbabwe and originally called Zimride, the Uber nemesis Lyft prides itself as being a ride sharing  rather than ride hailing app. At US$7.5bn, Lyft remains small relative to Uber. Critics have called it slow and quirky, and even author Brad Stone put them in the chapter on non-starters. But we suspect Lyft is here to stay. In many countries, Uber is unable to squash the competition entirely (China's Didi, ASEAN's Grab, etc), and Lyft does bring something different to the table: a collaborative structure, consumer idealism, and well...the ability to tip. There is also an interesting snippet about the three way relationship between them and GM, which we found a little strange.
