1. HSI INDEX Tactical Outlook Ahead of March 6th Index Rebalance

By Nico Rosti, MRM Research

  • As written yesterday by Brian Freitas the constituent changes for the Hang Seng Index (HSI) will be effective after the close of trading on 6 March, using 3 March data.
  • As always when flows are finalized markets can move, so this insight will try to project some implied ranges and discuss probabilities of trend reversals at key levels.
  • At the moment the Hang Seng Index (HSI) is mildly oversold and this comes after a flat/consolidation period that lasted 5-6 weeks so far, so there could be more downside.

2. Nikkei 225 (NKY INDEX) Outlook – Iran War Update: Very Oversold, May Bounce From Thursday

By Nico Rosti, MRM Research

  • The Nikkei 225 (NKY INDEX) crashed this week, like many other global indices. The index has reached 54245 on Wednesday, as Iran war intensifies.
  • However, US indices are rallying as we write in the US morning session and the Nikkei appears to be very oversold according to our model.
  • Although it is early to make a forecast for a reversal target, we think the index may bounce from Thursday, so it may recover some of the losses by Friday.

4. BYD (1211 HK) Tactical Outlook: Higher Oil Prices Could Boost EV Demand

By Nico Rosti, MRM Research

  • BYD (1211 HK) closed up +4.37% on Monday, some analyst attribute the performance to the news that the company is about to deliver an innovative ultra-fast car charger.
  • Another factor may be a projected increased interest in EV vehicles, due to potentially higher fuel prices caused by the Iran War and Hormutz Strait blockade.
  • From a pure quantitative standpoint, our model flagged the stock as ‘mildly oversold’ last Friday at Close. We previously said that BYD (1211 HK) may be ready to rally again.

5. Kospi200: Rally Enters Rare Territory With History Urging Caution

By John Ley, Clifton Derivatives

  • Kospi price action is also extreme when looked at against other global markets.
  • Prior comparable extremes were followed by weaker performance in the subsequent months.

6. Kospi200: Changing Volatility Regime and Practical Hedging Approaches

By John Ley, Clifton Derivatives

  • We examine the sharp shift in Kospi implied vol following the index’s extreme advance and assess changing volatility dynamics.
  • Implied vols have moved higher alongside price, altering the usual spot-vol dynamic during this latest up-leg.
  • With implied volatility elevated, we explore structures designed to moderate vega risk.

7. Sompo Holdings: ¥800B Capital Unlock and Aspen Deal Underwrite the DEC26 Option Strategy

By Jay Cameron, Cameron Design

  • Management is unlocking JPY 800B via asset sales to fund buybacks and high-ROIC global expansion, including the Aspen acquisition.
  • Domestic P&C margin recovery and rising Japanese rates drive a upward revision to the FY2025 Net Income forecast.
  • The current low valuation may not yet reflect the projected 18% CAGR EPS growth and higher Return on Equity from strategic initiatives.

8. S&P/ASX 200 Outlook – Iran War Update: Very Oversold, Can It Bounce This Coming Week?

By Nico Rosti, MRM Research

  • The S&P/ASX 200 (AS51 INDEX) reached quite oversold levels, closing the week at 8851. According to our model is very oversold.
  • What many wonders is if this sell-off is going to be short-lived, or maybe the war in Iran may suddenly look about to end this coming week.
  • Our analysis can only evaluate how deeply oversold the index is, keeping in mind that although the model includes all wars and crisis of the past, a crash is possible.

9. Macro Monthly (March): Kospi Dislocation, Nifty’s Seasonal Edge

By John Ley, Clifton Derivatives

  • Kospi had outsized gains again with its second consecutive month of > 20% gains and a large increase in implied vol.
  • Vol sellers faced a tougher backdrop as realized volatility challenged implied levels across several key markets.
  • March seasonality has shown an historically consistent pattern across markets.
